Vixen Dates 2014-2015

The Horseboating Society operates horse drawn trips on the Rochdale Canal with nb Vixen. The boat can take up to 12 passengers so booking is advisable. Bookings: 07711-121-056, Many of the trips below are one-way. There are regular bus services running along the valley parallel to the canal, making it easy to return to the start of your journey.

July 2014

Saturday July 12:

 •   Hebden Bridge to Luddenden Foot
3 miles, 4 locks, 1 legging tunnel

Saturday July 26:

 •   Luddenden Foot to Hebden Bridge
3 miles, 4 locks, 1 legging tunnel

August 2014

Saturday, Sunday August 2, 3:

Passenger boat Vixen at Hebden Bridge Transport Festival
Horseboating: horse-drawn trips for public available on Sunday.
Finish by horseboating to Mytholmroyd and leaving Vixen there.

Friday August 15:

 •   Mytholmroyd to Stubbing Wharf pub, Hebden Bridge
2 miles, 5 locks

Friday August 29:

 •   No horseboating – Vixen at Stubbings Wharf, Hebden Bridge.
Passenger boat Vixen at Shaggy Dogs Storytelling, Stubbing Wharf
Evening performances of storytelling in canalside pub.

Saturday August 30:

 •   Stubbing Wharf pub, Hebden Bridge to Sowerby Bridge
6 miles, 7 locks, 1 legging tunnel

Sunday August 31:

 •   No horse present – moving Vixen by shafts on Rochdale Canal
Passenger boat Vixen through Tuel Lane Lock, Sowerby Bridge, Britain’s deepest canal lock, to below the locks near the Canal Basin
0.5 miles, Tuel Lane Lock (nos 4 & 3), then locks 2 & 1

September 2014

Saturday, Sunday September 6, 7:

 •   No horseboating – passenger boat Vixen on display with canal arts for Sowerby Bridge Rush-bearing Festival, which includes the Canal Basin and the Navigation Inn on its route.

Friday September 12:

 •   Sowerby Bridge to Luddenden Foot
Optional passenger start points: Lock 2 then Tuel Lane Lock (3 & 4), Britain’s deepest canal lock,
OR join at top of Tuel Lane Lock
2 miles, 3 lock passages (Tuel Lane = locks 3 & 4).

Tuesday September 23:

 •   Mytholmroyd to Stubbing Wharf pub, Hebden Bridge
Includes legging of Fallingroyd Tunnel and going up 5 locks
